The beauty of motor scooter ownership is that you do not have to be a grease monkey. For the most part, a motor scooter is a reliable machine. However, as with a car certain maintenance rules must be followed for the optimum performance of your motor scooter.
Tire Pressure
First of all, you need to check your tire pressure and make sure their the tires are not cracked or worn. Also, check the owners manual for the correct tire tire pressure and follow their guidelines. A handy tip is to buy an air pump that will automatically shut off when the maximum allowed air pressure is reached.

1,000 Mile Preventative Maintenance
Every 1,000 miles you need to check the brakes and transmission fluid and replace them if required. Also, you need to remove and inspect the spark plugs. A properly functioning spark plug should be brown and absent of carbon build up.
3,000 Mile Maintenance
As with a car, you need to change the oil and oil filters. Also, the throttle and brake levels should be checked to make sure that they are properly connected and well adjusted. Also, the tension on the drive belt should be tested. Of course, follow the specifications that the manufacturer recommends. However, unless you are an experienced mechanic it is best to let a repair shop adjust then tension of your scooter.

5,000 Miles Maintenance
Every 5,000 miles you need to change the transmission oil and replace the filters.
General Rules
If you put your scooter up in storage, during the wintertime, you should charge up you battery monthly. Also, you should buy a cover for your scooter.
