MOPEDS
Mopeds , were introduced in the early 1950s. The first mopeds were standard bicycles with a helper motor. An example of this type is the VéloSoleX brand, which simply had a rubber roller driving the front tire. Slightly larger machines, commonly with a 98 cc engine were known as autocycles. However, some mopeds, such as the Czech-made Jawa, were derived from motorcycles. A further category of low-powered two-wheeler moped’s exists today in some jurisdictions for bicycles with helper motors—these are often defined as power-assisted bicycles. Some jurisdictions, however, may categorize these “motorized bicycles” as a type of moped.
Mopeds are a class of low-powered, two-wheeled, motorized vehicle whose power is under 50cc. A moped is driven in an upright position with the rider's back at a right angle to the seat. A moped is designed to be small. By it being small a Moped avoids the safety restrictions and license requirement of larger motorcycles It speeds tend to top out at 40 M.P.H. and it gets over 200 Miles Per Gallon.
ClASSIFICATION
Mopeds are normally defined by limits on engine displacement, speed, power output, transmissions, or the requirement of pedals. Typically, mopeds are restricted to 30-75 km/h (18-47 mph) and engines less than 50 cc. Some localities require pedals, thus making them a form of a hybrid vehicle, using both human and machine power. Because of their small size, many jurisdictions consider them "limited speed motorcycle Some mopeds have been designed with more than two wheels, similar to a micro car or the three wheeled (two front, one back) transport moped. Mopeds, generally, come in two engine sizes, the 50cc Moped –which is limited to 30 miles per hour and the 125cc Moped. The 125cc moped is more suitable for advanced riders as they can reach speeds up to 65mph.
Moped safety
A moped has similar safety concerns as a motorcycle. However, some safety issues are exacerbated on a moped. For example, a moped’s smaller size may offer finer control than a larger bike; but, this smaller size make them hard to see. So, many mopeds have reflectors, and other accessories, that makes them more visible.
Also, many mopeds are styled, to look like, motorcycles. This may result in inexperienced riders acting as if they were riding a motorcycle and expecting performance. But, they may try things that will get them in trouble. This also increases the risk from automobile drivers as they may mistake a motorcycle, for a moped, and misjudge its speed. Also, a helmet should always be worn when riding a moped.
