Motor Scooter Racing - An introduction


Motor Scooter Racing helps the motor scooter enthusiast satiate their need for speed. Motor scooter racing has different classes for every rider. For example, their officially sanctioned racing events for motor scooter riders who have fancy, tricked out modified scooters and you can race scooters if your motor scooter is stock. Also you can race your scooter is your bike is as small as 50cc.
Their are numerous style of races. The drag racing of motor scooters is popular in Europe, and racing on twisty tracks is particularly popular in the United States.


The rules for every sanctioned racing authority varies. But, all officially sanctioned scooter organizations have certain safety requirements. For example, riders must have a full face helmet and a set of leathers. Additionally, your bolts on your scooter need to be safety-wired so they do not come loose when you are racing. Also, Nyloc nuts maybe required on parts of your scooter and you may be required to tape your headlights to your scooter. Overall, when compared to motorcycle and/or stock car racing, motor scooter racing is not that expensive of a hobby.

There are several regional motor scooter sanctioning organizations. Here are some of the major United States ones:

Mid-America Scooter Sports (MASS) - This organization serve the midwest where they organize races in Ohio, Missouri, and Wisconsin.

Eastern Scooter Racing Association (ESRA) - as the name implies they hold motor scooter races on the eastern coast.

American Scooter Racing Association (ASRA) - is based in California and is the oldest motor scooter racing organization in the U.S.

British Scooter Sport Organization (BSRA) - As the name implies this organization governs motor scooter racing in the United Kingdom. It runs races from 50cc scooters and up to 650cc. According to their website it costs 27 pounds to participate in their race.
