Motor Scooter Safety - Safe Driving on the Interstate

If you properly prepare and research; you maybe able to ride your motor scooter on the highway. You need to both research both the physical characteristics of your motor scooter and the main environment that you will be riding your motor scooter in.
Physical Characteristics:
First of all, check your state regulations. In some states all you have to do is keep up with traffic. However, in other states you need to have a minimum power output for your ride. Also, the top speed of your bike should exceed the maximum speed, on average, that you need to drive. Not only do you have to keep up with traffic; but, you need to climb hills, pass, and ride into heavy winds. Also, your bike should be heavy enough to withstand gusts and cross winds. So, when you are passing someone and a gust hits you your scooter wont topple over.

Additionally, a tire with a high speed rating is necessary. When the speed rating is higher you are able to travel smoothly in a straight line and have more capability around turns. Additionally, if you have higher speed rating you can break with less notice. For the wheel base, a longer one may increase your stability when your motor scooter reaches higher speeds.

Environment:
If you scoot in an area with high winds you will have your speed greatly reduced. As it can be imagined the lighter the scooter the greater you will be affected by heavy winds. So, if you ride in a windy area you should consider a heavier motor scooter.
The altitude of where you buy your scooter also directly affects your scooter’s engine performance. Basically, the higher the altitude the slower your bike will be. Also, whether or not you want to carry a passenger is something to be looked into. If you have a passenger, and your scooter has a low weight capacity your scooter will be very slow and not safe.
